Team Captain: Rowan Hill
Other Members: Stuart Payne, Alan Hill
Aircraft: 1985, J-model Mooney (M20J), VH-SJT
Stuart Payne has been flying since 1981, but only in 2009 ventured into the world of aircraft ownership when he purchased a half share in a 1985 J-model Mooney, VH-SJT . He raced in the 2006 event (for the first time) and enjoyed it so much so that he volunteered for the record breaking 2009 event’s organising committee in the role of Treasurer, and is in the same role for this year’s event. Flying with co-owner Rowan Hill, Stuart is keen to spend a fortnight watching Australia disappear under SJT’s wings as they fly in this great event once again.
Rowan Hill has been flying since 2002 but has taken his flying to new heights since purchasing a half share in SJT. With co-owner Stuart and some other merry mooney pilots at Jandakot, Rowan particularly enjoys the camaraderie and piloting challenge that formation flying offers. Rowan is looking forward to a night rating and a twin rating but more imminently is counting down the days until he and Stuart will practically circumnavigate Australia in SJT, visiting communities which due to their remoteness, they may never have otherwise seen. Rowan has been looking forward to volunteering for a good cause which gives back to the community and which he has a passion for. Rowan believes that joining the organising committee and competing in this year's RFDS outback air race will provide this opportunity.
Alan Hill (Rowan’s Dad) has been flying as a passenger for many years and loving every minute of it. Great way to get away from every day hassles (and creating new ones). Alan is a retired engineer and enjoys his boat whenever he can. However, as SJT is closer at Jandakot it has been easier to sneak off for a flight with Rowan than a fishing trip.
Alan is well travelled and enjoys the outback of Australia. He is looking forward to the trip, the chin wagging and looking at more planes - all for a great cause.
