Biggles & Bertie
George Chapman (a.k.a. “Biggles”) and Murray Korff (a.k.a. “Bertie”) are both longtime members of the Royal Aero Club of WA. They have invited Malaysian aviator, Surendra Singam (a.ka. “Ginger”) to join their team entry in the Outback Air Race 2012. However, "Ginger" has not yet been able to confirm that he will be able to join the team, due to aviation business commitments in Asia.
George (“Biggles”) learned to fly with the Kalgoorlie Wing of Royal Aero Club and gained his PPL in 1960 . For the past several years George has owned a Piper Arrow IV aircraft, (VH-BCM) which is based at Jandakot airport. This is his second Outback Air Race, having participated as “Biggles & the Flying Doc” with Dr. Robert Liddell in the 2009 event. Although they did not win the Air Race, they did however win a Red Faces talent quest night on one of the overnight stops.
Murray (“Lord Bertie”) learned to fly with Peninsular Airservices at Moorabbin in Melbourne in 1977 and is endorsed on a variety of both single engine and multi engine aircraft. He is a formation flying devotee as well as a reasonable aerobatic pilot on a good day. This will be “Lord Bertie’s first experience flying in the Outback Air Race and he is looking forward to flying again with “Biggles.”
