We have a very exciting update for the Outback Air Race 2021!

The planning for the 2021 Outback Air Race is well advanced.  The Race will commences in Darwin, NT on Monday, 30th August 2021 and finishes in Coffs Harbour, NSW, on Sunday.12th September 2021 with a gala Finale Dinner.

As it stands at the moment, the event plans to stop Jabiru(NT), Borroloola(NT, fuel stop only), Adels Grove(QLD), Karumba (QLD), Undara (QLD), Shute Harbour (QLD), Gladstone(QLD), Roma (QLD), Goondiwindi(QLD) before the finished at Coffs Harbour (NSW)

Some stops involve 2 nights accommodation. Approximate distance is 2,000nm or 3,800km, over some of the most interesting terrain in Australia.

Each overnight stop will provide a range of accommodation options to suit different tastes and budgets, with a limit of approximately 100 people planned for the event. Some destination will have organised events for participants, while the balance of your time is free to explore or partake in a range of events/tours that will showcase each of the destinations.

With an event of this type, risk management is a key planning aspect to ensure the safety of the aircraft, participants, and the public.  The Outback Air Race utilises the services of an external risk management consultancy as well as senior aviation and medical professionals in the planning and running of the event.  In the current Covid-19 climate, any decision regarding the running of the event will be made closer to the date to satisfy the constraints and medical advice at the time, which could include the postponement of the event, a change of dates or the route.

The official race launch will be held in November, with nominations being accepted immediately afterwards, but in the meanwhile, please share this email with anyone you know who might be interested so they can subscribe to our mailing list via our webpage (www.outbackairrace.com.au) to avoid missing the registration period.  If 2018 is anything to go by, all places were filled within a couple of weeks.

The committee is looking forward to another successful Outback Air Race in 2021 and raising much-needed funds to support the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia.
