We have a very exciting update for the Outback Air Race 2021!
The planning for the 2021 Outback Air Race is well advanced. The Race will commences in Darwin, NT on Monday, 30th August 2021 and finishes in Coffs Harbour, NSW, on Sunday.12th September 2021 with a gala Finale Dinner.
As it stands at the moment, the event plans to stop Jabiru(NT), Borroloola(NT, fuel stop only), Adels Grove(QLD), Karumba (QLD), Undara (QLD), Shute Harbour (QLD), Gladstone(QLD), Roma (QLD), Goondiwindi(QLD) before the finished at Coffs Harbour (NSW)
Some stops involve 2 nights accommodation. Approximate distance is 2,000nm or 3,800km, over some of the most interesting terrain in Australia.
Each overnight stop will provide a range of accommodation options to suit different tastes and budgets, with a limit of approximately 100 people planned for the event. Some destination will have organised events for participants, while the balance of your time is free to explore or partake in a range of events/tours that will showcase each of the destinations.
With an event of this type, risk management is a key planning aspect to ensure the safety of the aircraft, participants, and the public. The Outback Air Race utilises the services of an external risk management consultancy as well as senior aviation and medical professionals in the planning and running of the event. In the current Covid-19 climate, any decision regarding the running of the event will be made closer to the date to satisfy the constraints and medical advice at the time, which could include the postponement of the event, a change of dates or the route.
The official race launch will be held in November, with nominations being accepted immediately afterwards, but in the meanwhile, please share this email with anyone you know who might be interested so they can subscribe to our mailing list via our webpage (www.outbackairrace.com.au) to avoid missing the registration period. If 2018 is anything to go by, all places were filled within a couple of weeks.
The committee is looking forward to another successful Outback Air Race in 2021 and raising much-needed funds to support the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia.
Thank you on the great presentation last night from the Committee members. Well done and you have certainly got our adventure juices flowing!
I have a question which I wasn’t sure was appropriate for the introductory meeting Q&A due to privacy issues and relates to the individual team members personal information.
I am wondering if you will be releasing the names and contact info of say the individual team captain’s so we can make contact between each other prior to the event commencing.
If we participate (and we are def. hoping that will be the case) ours will be a team of two first timers and we will be travelling from Wedderburn in Sydney to Darwin in a C182 and we think it may be advantageous for us to try to team up if possible with other team/s based in or around Sydney to make this journey together, or at least in loose company, to add an extra layer of support and safety during that part of the trip which I anticipate will take 3 to 4 days of fairly long legs (up to approx 470nm).
Thanks and best of luck with your planning!
Hi Martin,
The Chinwags (regular meetings prior to race start) present a great opportunity to network with other potential race participants and form up travelling groups like this.

It’s a good suggestion. We will ask registrants whether they are willing to share their contact details with other particpants in the event
Hey Martin,
I’m from Vic and my teammate is from Qld.
I’ll be flying up from Vic to Dalby in Qld, almost right past Wedderburn the week before.
Feel free to hook on with us if you like
I live in Sydney and own an A36 Bonanza.
I noted the dates for the 2021 Airrace, but cannot be sure I registered. I note that registrations are now closed, but had taken the time off and made plans on the assumption of participating. My son was going to do most of the flying to gain PIC hours for his CPL.
Please advise
Regards
Michael
Sadly the Mittagong 210’ers won’t be attending this year simply because we have finished our Angel Flights and our Cessna 210 has been sold. Jim and Vanessa as do we wish this years event and participants good and safe fun as we seriously wish we were attending. However, two Races were a privilege to participate and we have wonderful memories.
